Hi there! I don't quite know where to begin. What a cool dog Chief is. He did great in the motorhome and at the river. He loved the boat. He was a little timid in the water but he is still a baby. He did swim though! He is sweet, playful, fun, bites a little hard with those puppy teeth but best of all he sleeps through the night!!! He already knows how to come, sit, and almost shake. He is a fast learner and is so cute!!! He is such a baby I love it!! He has to be right next to us or he whines. He will not go down the stairs we still have to carry him, but finally learned to go up. We say kennel up and he goes right in- he loves his kennel!

I cant say enough about our new baby! He is definitely not deprived!!! He loves the kids and is great at waking them up for school!! He goes everywhere with us and draws sooo much attention. People are so curious about him.
He is the coolest dog!!
Thank you!!
Paula

When I first contacted Brian about a pp I told him I was looking for a dog that would be a great friend, a good family dog and an awesome bird dog.  Brian thought his breed had all the qualities I was looking for and we acquired “Rusty” in the summer of 2005 when he was just 7 weeks old.  Rusty has proven to be everything we could have wanted and much, much, more.

During the week we live at beautiful Lake Tahoe , California and since I am self employed Rusty goes everywhere with me, we are together pretty much 24/7.  Maybe all the time we spend together can explain the exceptional bond we have or the unspoken language we have to communicate because the love that dog has for me is just incredible.  He sticks with me like glue, when we’re not together his biggest concern is where I am.  And if he needs something like water, or whatever, he tells me by going to the object and barking.  He’s also great with my teenage daughters although he can still be a bit annoying steeling their socks, etc!  But when he’s not annoying the girls he most likely can be found cuddling in bed with them.

On weekends we travel to our 900 acre ranch where Rusty is in his glory as we have quail, chukar, pheasants and all sorts of wild animals roaming around.  The only thing he loves as much as me is hunting; he is incredible with the birds.  From the moment my husband brings out the hunting rifle Rusty begins barking and dancing with excitement.  To watch him hunt is a real treat, the drive to look and keep after the birds is amazing, and he is so motivated!  He showed this drive very early on and just continues to improve as he gets older.

Rusty is now almost three and we are so happy with the breed that we have ordered another pp from Brian for this summer.  To say that he doesn’t have any bad traits would not be true, he can do some really annoying things.  He has a terrible fetish for paper products, tissues, napkins, you name it he will go in to the trash, your pocket, wherever to get it and tear it to shreds and walk away.  Or maybe he’s taken the glove right off your hand while you’re working for the tenth time and you don’t know where it is. And while I’ve heard all the other pp’s can swim, Rusty is content getting his belly wet and jumping in the boat with me than swimming any day.  It is our goal that our next pp will swim and make Rusty feel like a weenie!  But all these funny things make Rusty Rusty and we wouldn’t change them for anything.

I could go on and on but to sum it up Rusty is an awesome dog and we are so glad he is part of our family; Brian definitely helped make the experience even more special with his friendship.  So if you don’t have a pp, get one, you’ll have the greatest friend you could ever ask for!

Hi Brian,

Hope all is well in North Dakota.  Just had to let you know how well Sam is doing.  Like you said the PP is an awesome breed!  I don't think there are enough superlatives to describe Sam.  I think PP's could easily surpass labs and retrievers as the 'gold standard' for a family dog.  By the way, he also proudly plucked his first bird out of the air today!  He graduated from puppy class on Monday and moves on to Basic Obedience class later this month and you were right, he had a few runs through the agility course and he did really well!  He has admirers wherever he goes.  Twice a day, I take him to an open field near our home and he meets up with all his "new friends".  He has his two favorites though, Amber a Springer Spaniel and KuJo a Cocker Spaniel.  I guess he prefers Sporting Breeds, too.  Ha! Ha!

One small item, I was wondering if I should have received his AKC papers yet?  Let me know if I should be following up on that.

Anyway, Sam is surely enjoying his life in California.  Even when I am sitting in the shade, he'll move away from my feet a little to bask in the California sunshine.
Take care...

Best Regards,
Janet

Quick update on Hermann.

Here are some pics. from one of the days he was out with me. Hermann has been a great addition to our family and has provided us with plenty of entertainment. He took a normal amount of time for potty training. He catches on to commands like "sit" very quickly but working with him can be difficult because of his high level of energy and excitement. Often it will take 1/2 hour for him to settle down before we can even pick up a dummy. It takes him a little while to warm up to things he is supposed to retrieve. Ex. I took a dummy out of the package and threw it. He didn't know what he was supposed to do with it at first so he just watched it fall and went the other way. After he played with it for a couple minutes he was retrieving just fine, every toss. No signs of gun shyness yet....and don't expect any. Like you said I am able to just about rest the gun barrel between his ears and he won't flinch. Everything I read about the breed said they were compassionate almost to the point of inappropriateness at times and he is no exception. Often just laying next to me isn't enough he wants to sprawl out on my lap our lean against me. The only surprise so far is his lack of submissiveness. I heard they were a very submissive breed and he is for me because I am not afraid to enforce it but my wife can't get him to obey for the life of her. She is soft spoken but knows when to lay the law down and he just won't listen to her. Maybe it's the puppy yet but otherwise everything is great. I'll have plenty more photos after this weekend. (pheasant opener).

Sorry I have not written earlier but I want to say thank you very much for selling Tye to me. He is a truly an all around  dog. I have shot a total of  400  birds with Tye.  Not one has he missed and he goes in the water for ducks as well.  When I got out a times with him and we are hunting birds  sometimes he will kick up rabbits and the chases it to bring it back in shooting range.  I never registered the dog because I'm not a breeder. I'm just a hunter hope you do not mind its not a big thing for me. I just want to hunt. There is not much more to say about Tye only that he's great with kids , good guard dog around the house, great on land with birds, listens NO collar needed, only goes 40 yards and comes back, great finding rabbits and can swim like a lab, So really I bought 4 dogs from you not just one again thank you.

Hello Brian! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Hope all is well for you and your family in North Dakota. We are wonderful here. We wanted to send you a fun picture of Chief. He is awesome. This pic is of him at the river. He goes into a full point now when he sees a bird. He just freezes and trembles. It is really cool to watch. It is amazing at how the instincts really kick in. I love to take him hiking in the mountains. I swear he is like a mountain goat. He runs up and down these huge mountains like nothing, all you see is his white little deer butt. He is the greatest dog. I cant say it enough.
Thanks again!!

Brian-

Now that hunting season has ended I can send you another "late season" update on Hermann (see attached photo).

Hermann and I ended the year very well. Being a new puppy and trying to figure out pheasant hunting is difficult, but I couldn't have asked for more from him. He had a few SOLID points this year which was great to see. Mostly I was happy that he was really getting into it and always had his nose going. My big concern, living in MN, was the cold temps we sometimes see in December. The photo I attached was taken on a day in the single digits with a sub-zero windchill. More than once Hermann and I hunted until 3:00 or 4:00 to get our limit, we got so much snow early that birds moved out into fields and became very inaccessible. However, when we did find one we found a bunch and he had so much fun. On one of the last days he also made a half-retreive on a live bird. He is still a baby but is making giant steps towards becoming a good bird dog. He tackled cold and deep snow well for his age and size. He had plenty of stamina and we often would hunt all day, turn around and go again the next. He doesn't like venturing very far away from me which is ok. Hopefully I can keep working with him this winter and get him on some live birds early in spring and summer when it warms up. By next fall he should really be roaring and ready to go. Thanks Brian, I'll keep you posted. Hopefully you'll be doing this a few years from now when my wife and I are ready for a 2nd! We're both hooked!

Hi Brian

Just thought I’d send you an update and some pictures of Sam.  In a word…..he’s the BEST!  PP’s continue to be my new favorite breed.  As my trainer said, “I’ve never seen a dog try so hard to understand what you want of him”.   Sam is still thoroughly enjoying his SoCal suburban life.  I am now taking him to the woods everyday where we go on ‘no kill’ hunts…mostly rabbits, birds and ground squirrels.  It is a pure joy to see him in, obviously, his favorite environment, as he exercises his natural tracking ability.  Like you said, he’ll never wander more than 20 yards ahead without turning around to see if I am keeping up.  I can simply point to change his direction or one whistle will bring him to my side.  Your children did such a great job socializing him, as ever since we brought him home, although he loves all people, his tail wags double-time for children.  Lucky for us, Sam was the ‘last pup standing’ in Litter #2.  It will be difficult watching your upcoming puppy pictures….maybe another year…

All the best!

Regards,

Janet

Hi,
I am so sorry that has taken so long to reply, hopefully I am not too late.

Well all I can say is that Linkin (thats our PP Pup) is the best dog we could have asked for.We wanted a dog that would play and have personality and he does. He doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, he could be chewing a rawhide and i could crawl up beside him and put my face in his and he would look at me, give me a big kiss and keep on chewing. He has never growled or anything of the sort.

Brian says that he calls that them 'Velcro dogs' - believe it! he loves to be near us at all times; when walking off leash he won't go more than 25-30 feet and will always look back to see where we are, and it only takes one call of his name for him to come running towards us.

Linkin does shed, it didn't really start until he was about 9mos old, and he has gone in spurts of shedding lots and then not at all. He doesn't have any allergies that we have noticed. My husband was really allergic to fluffier dog hair  - from a golden retriever or a cocker spaniel (that is one of the main reasons we wanted a PP) but he hasn't had any breathing reaction to Link. When we very first got Link, my husband would get a very light skin rash - but he doesn't anymore.

He is great with kids and smaller dogs, its like he knows they are not as strong as him. He also knows if there is another dog that is more dominant and will back off on playing with him. Linkin's best friend is a female boxer that is about 8mos older than him; she is the same height but weights about 20 lbs less and they don't stop playing when together.

We put Link in obedience school when he was 3 mos old. I think that it was great both for us and him. He doesn't have any bad habits; like barking lots, jumping up at the counter, whining for food - but he does snore!!  He listens really well, he is still a puppy but he almost always come when called just once. I could probably count on one hand the number of times he peed in the house when we were potty training him. He is very smart - probably too smart!

Link is very active and loves to go for walks. He loves sticks and toys (although he pulls all the stuffing out) He is also becoming more protective of us, me especially.
Well i hope that answers your questions, I guess all i can say is that when we get our second dog, it will be another one of Brians PP's.
We love Linkin alot, he is an awesome dog.
Any more questions just let me know. I have attached some pics of Linkin (I think we have taken approx over 1000 pics of Link since he was just a pup)

Robbie

Thanks Brian.

I have never purchased a dog through the internet or without actually seeing the dog, but you have made it a relatively painless and enjoyable experience. Thanks for everything. We’re really excited to get the dog next week.

Hello Brian, just wanted to give you a quick update on my pup. I named him Podgie and he's simply the most beautiful, intelligent puppy I've EVER had. He has absolutely taken my breath away. His mind set is so mature, after the airport, went to my folks and let him out of the crate. Immediately my other dog, ma's dog and the barn dog trot over and Podgie just sits and lets them sniff away and then the barn cats follow and he was totally fine with everybody. Then my brother walked over to us leading a colt and the colt bends his head down and huffs and snorts at him and he just sat there. He was very alert and curious just calm about everything. When I got home we waited in the front yard for the school bus and my kids, ages 6 and 7, come flying off the bus screaming and flailing there backpacks and he just ran right up to them............PLEASE do not stop breeding these incredible dogs, I can already see myself getting another one from you in a couple of years.
Question for you: I want to order two custom braided collars for my pup and ma's. Could you please tell me the approximate collar size for an adult male and adult female.
Again, I want to thank you for everything my family could not be happier with this little guy.

Hi Brian,

I want to thank you for the unvelievable pup I purchased. She has lived up to all of my expectations and is everything you said the breed is. She is a very well behaved puppy with lots of energy! I am very pleased with her. Here are a few pics that i've recently taken of her. i'll keep in touch and send you more as she grows. @ a little over 13 weeks old she weighs about 20 pounds and is a beautiful dog. Everyday, when we're out for our walk, at least 2 people stop and ask me about her. She really is a great looking pup.

Thanks again Brian,

Hi Brian!

Hope all is well with you and yours.  Just wanted to send you a couple pictures of Dakota's first month in California.  I love the picture of him on his back in the kennel...he was sound asleep after his first day at "doggie day care" so that we can keep him socialized to other dogs.  The vet says he is 100% healthy and has a "wonderfully good" appetite.

We are very much so enjoying him and will continue to keep you posted on his progress. Mark and I have been asked so many times, "What kind of breed is that?" that we joke about making Dakota his own business card to hand to people explaining the breed...hopefully it will turn into more puppy sales for you in the future.

Hello Brian

Here are a few photos of Dumont! (his name means “of the mountains”, and is also the name of a city in Colorado)

We’re absolutely loving him and we can’t believe how fast he’s growing!

The first photo is of him and his “dad” the day we got him. He experienced his first snow last week when we got two feet in Denver.  We’ve also moved into the mountains in the last few weeks and he’s had a ton of fun watching the wildlife and sleeping in front of the fire.  He met his “cousins” from Iowa last week as well.  My parents two PP’s.  I attached a photo from their meeting but of course it was hard to get them all posed for a photo.  He loved getting to play with the other PP’s.   So far his personality is great, he’s adapting very well to new situations and has been very easy to train.  We were also incredibly impressed that there have only been 3 nights since we got him that he hasn’t slept through the night, amazing!

Thank you so much!  We love having Dumont in our lives and he couldn’t be a better dog!

Erin

Hi Brian,

Rusty's hives lasted 4 days.  He must have encountered something his body didn't like on his afternoon walk.  I can't remember if I mentioned that Rusty had some build up in his ears.  We have a few more days of ear drops - thankfully!  Also wanted to let you know that his surgery to get Neutered and remove his Dew claws is scheduled for Dec 1st.  I wanted to get it done before the snow hits.

Finally, I wanted to let you know that Rusty is the nicest dog I ever met!  He is so friendly to everyone he meets.  He his truly happy to interact with people and happy to met new people regardless of age.  He already does awesome at the Nursing home where I take him to see my Grandma, he is wonderful at the bus stop every morning with 10 kids sounding him and trying to him pet and he did great at my sons soccer games all fall with 4 games being played at one time and 150 spectators present.  Amazing considering he is now 15.5 weeks old.  I must have talked to 100 people about his breed.  Everyone is so interested in him!

Take Care,
Diane

Brian-

Here are some pics of Hermann this year. I had him out yesterday hunting geese. Unfortunately it has been awfully slow pheasant season down here. Corn is just starting to really come out now and it is mid-November. I have had him out quite a bit though. It is amazing how much he has came out of his shell this fall. Last year he had started to pick up on what he should be doing, this year when we are after pheasants he is full-throttle all the time. He moves so fast sometimes that he has trouble holding the birds tight which we will be working on next spring and summer. I have friends with other pointers, professionally trained and all the bells and whistles. None of their dogs hunt with the shear intensity that Hermann has, some maybe a little more obedient or have other aspects of the hunt finer tuned, but Hermann has a drive that rivals any.

Thanks for the great dog, I'll keep you posted.
